When you visit the Free Tax Preparation site, be sure to bring an ID, original social security cards (or ITINs) and W2 and 1099 if available.

Residents 60 years and older with low and moderate income can register for free assistance on their personal tax preparation. e-File is available.

San Jose Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program

In addition to VITA, the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program offers free tax help for all taxpayers, particularly those who are 60 years of age and older, specializing in questions about pensions and retirement-related issues unique to seniors. The IRS-certified volunteers who provide tax counseling are often retired individuals associated with non-profit organizations that receive grants from the IRS.

What to bring to your VITA appointment in San Jose:

  • Proof of identification such as a driver’s lisence or other photo ID
