The Los Angeles Public Library’s (LAPL) Central Library will have individual Federal and California State tax forms for the 2014 tax year starting in early February 2015.  Due to IRS budget cuts, we will receive IRS forms but not instructions, schedules and related publications.

Paper tax forms will be available to the public on a limited basis at the Business & Economics Department, Central Library, Lower Level 1.  Tax forms and instructions can also be requested by:

IRS VITA Program in Los Angeles and LA Free Tax Return Filing

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free income tax return preparation for low-income taxpayers. Due to the large number of individuals desiring assistance, the program has set a $60,000 maximum gross income (total) limitation per income tax return for those seeking help. Married couples filing joint returns must have both spouses present when tax returns are being prepared. CSUN-VITA is designed to assist taxpayers with basic problems on their income tax returns.

How do you file tax return for free in Los Angeles?

What you MUST bring:
•Valid Photo ID
•Bring Social Security cards or ITINs for ALL dependents to be listed on the return
•All wage reports forms – such as W-2’s and 1099’s
•Tuition Payments Statement 1098-T, if applicable
•Any other form marked “Important Tax Document”
•Prior years tax return and/or AGI (adjusted gross income)
•Bank Account & Routing Number for Direct Deposit / Direct Debit
•Receipts for Child/Day Care Expenses & Provider’s ID number
•Landlord’s Name, Phone Number, and Address for CA Renter’s Credit

Mexican American Opportunity Foundation VITA

Since 1993, MAOF has provided free tax preparation services for households whose income falls below $52,000 through its VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program).” Volunteers participate in IRS-certified training sessions, allowing MAOF to prepare approximately 1,600 tax returns each year.

Clients not only receive FREE tax preparation services, they also learn about available tax credits such as the Earned income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Tax Credit for Elderly of the Disabled. The VITA program is a major asset for the Los Angeles community, providing information and assistance to many individuals who would not otherwise be able to file a tax return.
