Free Tax Preparation in Detroit Michigan Claim Earned Income Credit

The Accounting Aid Society has started preparing tax forms for low income families and individuals at the Westside Food Center, 1300 Oakman Boulevard, Detroit.

Volunteers will provide assistance Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. until April 12.


Who can Get Free Tax Preparation in Detroit?

Individuals who earned less than $25,000 are eligible for the service as well as families that earned $50,000 or less. A family is considered a married couple or a person with at least one dependent.

Service is on a first-come, first-served basis. As a result, it is possible that not everyone will be assisted on a given day due to volume.

AARP, Accounting Aid Society, and Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency are providing free tax preparation for the 2013 tax year at eleven (11) Detroit Public Library locations.  Seniors and those physically unable to visit a tax site call TIP 313.481.1400 for a referral to other sites.

Eligibility guidelines for this free service are based on annual household income:

 Maximum Income

Individuals $35,000

Families    $50,000

This free service includes preparation of Federal, State, City tax returns, and application for credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, First-Time Homebuyer Credit, Home Heating Credit, Homestead Property Tax Credit, and Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Incentives.
